EXPECTATIONS for OLATHE SOUTH THEATRE STUDENTS
Failing to meet any of the below expectations may lead to removal from the cast/crew.
- Be Prompt
“Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable.”- Eric Jerome Dickey
Students are expected to be in the room where it happens at all call times for rehearsals and performances. This includes attending and being on time to all rehearsals AND to all your classes at Olathe South. - Be Prepared
“Confidence comes from being prepared.” - John Wooden
Students are expected to bring their script and a pencil to every rehearsal, and to have their lines, blocking, vocal parts, and choreography memorized by the designated due dates. - Be Respectful
“Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art.” - Konstantin Stanislavski
Students are expected to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion. Olathe South Theatre is about being a part of a winning team. A student’s role is to help make the show better by helping others succeed.
- Follow School Rules
“It’s always more difficult to recover than it is to do the right thing in the beginning.” - Tony Baxter
Students are expected to be passing all their classes and to follow all the school rules as found in the Olathe Public Schools Code of Student Conduct.
COSTS for STUDENTS in OLATHE SOUTH THEATRE PRODUCTIONS
Note: Costs should not prevent participation in Olathe South Theatre. Contact a school counselor if there is financial need.
- Funding our shows is done in two ways. The first is the budget provided by Olathe South High School. We receive less money today than when Mr. Hastings started in 2002. That year we only produced 3 shows. Today we produce 5. The second way we fund our shows is through ticket sales. If we could sell out every show, we wouldn’t need any additional funds. However, this doesn’t happen. For this reason, all of the other Olathe High Schools are requiring both production fees and fundraising. We want to raise funds a little differently. We simply ask families to donate at least $100 for each show a student participates in. This contribution level would allow us to fully fund our production and stay competitive with the other Olathe Schools. Without these donations, we’ll be less competitive. Help Olathe South Theatre Win.
- Make up kits are required for all cast members. You may purchase them from A to Z Theatrical or Kansas City Costume. Students may not share make up for health reasons. If you have one from a previous show, you may use it. Students will receive instructions on how to apply stage makeup during rehearsal.
- Students are REQUIRED to provide their own APPROPRIATE SHOES AS SPECIFIED BY THE CHOREOGRAPHER or COSTUMER. Not all shows require special dance shoes. Cost varies for dance shoes. This is typically for character, jazz, ballet, or tap shoes.
- Students will have the OPTION of purchasing items relates to the show or our theatre department. These are always optional.
- Students will have the OPTION of participating in the “BREAK-A-LEG” BUDDY GIFT EXCHANGE the week of the show. Students are encouraged to spend less than $10, but homemade gifts are the most meaningful.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to attend all their classes. Students who fail to attend school may lose their role in the show. If a student misses any part of the school day, they may be "benched" or removed for all or part of the rehearsal, performance or the entire production.
ACADEMICS: Students are expected to pass all their classes. If a student is failing a class, they may be removed from the show at the discretion of the Olathe South Administration and the adult staff working on the musical. The best way for students to pass their classes is to attend school every day, be in the classroom for the entire hour from bell to bell, and to work with their teacher. All teachers want every student to pass their class. They will help students who attend and participate in their class, do the assignments, and ask for assistance when they are struggling.
