Shakespeare monologues 22-23
Shakespeare Sonnets 22-23
Student's Handbook
Judges Handbook (2023)

Each year, all students in acting classes memorize a monologue from William Shakespeare's plays. The monologues are provided by the English-Speaking Union's National Shakespeare Competition. Olathe South holds a school Shakespeare contest. The winner of this contest gets the opportunity to compete in the Kansas City Branch of the English-Speaking Union's annual Shakespeare competition. Typically, the winner of the city competition gets an all expenses paid trip to NYC to compete in the national ESU Shakespeare Competition in late April.

Olathe South has had four city champions and three top 10 finalist at the national completion since 2010.
Prizes for national winners:
  • 1st Place: A scholarship to the Young Actor's Summer School at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
  • 2nd Place: A scholarship to the American Shakespeare Center's Theatre Camp in Staunton, Virginia.
  • 3rd Place: $500
