Shakespeare
Olathe South's Shakespeare Competition will be on Thursday, December 12th at 3pm in the Black Box Theatre. Anyone is welcome to attend and watch the competition.
- Applications for the competition are already closed for this year.
- This year, four students will perform a completely memorized monologue and a sonnet (both are required to qualify for the Kansas City Shakespeare Competition.)
Each year, all students in acting classes memorize a monologue from William Shakespeare's plays. The monologues are provided by the English-Speaking Union's National Shakespeare Competition. Olathe South holds a school Shakespeare contest. The winner of this contest gets the opportunity to compete in the Kansas City Branch of the English-Speaking Union's annual Shakespeare competition. Typically, the winner of the city competition gets an all expenses paid trip to NYC to compete in the national ESU Shakespeare Competition in late April.
Olathe South has had four city champions and three top 10 finalist at the national completion since 2010.
