Olathe South's Shakespeare Competition will be on Thursday, December 10th, 2026 at 3pm in the Black Box Theatre. Anyone is welcome to attend and watch the competition.
To be eligible to compete in the Shakespeare Competition, students must do the following things by Wednesday, December 9th:
The student who wins the school Shakespeare competition will have to pick a sonnet and have it memorized by the end of winter break. If this doesn't happen, Mr. Hastings will move on to the runner-up in the school competition.
The student who wins this competition will qualify to compete at the Kansas City Shakespeare competition for a chance to compete at nationals, as long as they memorized a sonnet and have it fully memorized by the end if winter break. If this doesn't happen, Mr. Hastings will move on to the runner-up in the school competition as Olathe South's entry for the Kansas City Shakespeare competition.

Each year, all students in acting classes memorize a monologue from William Shakespeare's plays. The monologues are provided by the English-Speaking Union's National Shakespeare Competition. Olathe South holds a school Shakespeare contest. The winner of this contest gets the opportunity to compete in the Kansas City Branch of the English-Speaking Union's annual Shakespeare competition. Typically, the winner of the city competition gets an all expenses paid trip to NYC to compete in the national ESU Shakespeare Competition in late April.
Olathe South has had four city champions and three top 10 finalist at the national completion since 2010.
