By Stephen Gregg
This play will be adjudicated for

& the International Thespian Festival (June 22-28, 2025)
You’ve heard of Peter Pan. You might think you know the story: about a boy who can fly, about Neverland and pirates and Lost Boys and Tinkerbelle. But you don’t know the real story, because the man who wrote it all down wasn’t actually there. Wendy Moira Angela Darling, who was there, is about to fix that. She’ll show you what really happened to Peter’s shadow, and how Peter learned to fly. She’ll teach you about Tinkerbelle (meaner than you thought) and she’ll show you a key character who you’ve never heard of. To do this, Wendy is staging a play (lightly edited by Stephen Gregg) called The Neverland Project. Get ready to fly, because the best way to explain Neverland is to take you there.
"The play is about imagination; we have more of it when we’re young and as adults we need to find ways to not lose it, the way Mrs. Darling does. When Wendy flies off she acknowledges that she’s running off with her imagination: Peter and Neverland represent imagination, and The Neverland Project is about preserving it. You have to leave a window open, or it’ll disappear, bit by bit, as you get older. Stories are a way of keeping imagination alive; they allow Miss to get back.. (And while I’m on the topic, Wendy’s time on the rock demos the dark side of imagination: night terrors that aren’t real. ) The Neverland Project is about preserving imagination in whatever way one can: following it, living in it, writing it down as stories so that we don’t lose its power." - Stephen Gregg (May 29, 2024
